(FIRST YEAR) Earth Day Lesson - Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Replenish!

In honor of Earth Day, our lesson focused on the ways we can take care of our Earth and make it a safe, healthy place to live for many years to come:  RECYCLE, save energy, donate and share, plant trees & gardens, reduce what you use, conserve, walk instead of driving, pick up trash, be nice to animals, and replenish what you use.  These are big ideas that the children easily understood with a little explanation and some examples.

One thing we learned how to do this week (that may help at home!) was to divide our waste into bins of recycling:  plastic, glass, and paper - and leave it out for the Recycling men & women, not put it in the trash.  We learned how this conserves energy by reusing and recycling the materials.  It also saves trees!

We talked about many easy ways that we can help the Earth in our homes right now:  turning out the lights in our bedroom, turning off the water while we brush, taking a shorter shower, and eating everything on our plate (or saving it for later).  The kids were excellent ambassadors for Mother Earth!

Here are some of the books we enjoyed...

This was an excellent read to share with the children...

This is a beautiful story to share with your kids...

And the recycling bins...

We learned to watch out for this special sign...

Sorting recycling was a fun adventure...

The younger children got a visit from Mr. Owl (whoooo they loved)...
