During the second week of school, I got to meet my 4 and 5 year-old friends! In addition to what science involves and what scientists explore, we discussed what an EXPERIMENT is (a test that we repeat to answer a question) and what tools scientists use (magnifying glasses, telescopes, thermometers, rulers, etc). Several of the new hands-on centers I added this week were: creating insect fossils; exploring insects using a magnifying glass; objects on a ramp; comparing x-rays to actual images; living vs. non-living things; and creating a robot.
